Science Program for High School Students — Be a University Student for a Day — Hosting “The World of ‘Mathematics Research’ and ‘Mathematics Education’” (Faculty of Science Division I, Department of Mathematics)! ※ What is the Science Program for High School Students — Be a University Student for a Day —? This program offers high school students an opportunity to focus on research dealing with various phenomena in the world and to experience “learning” at university. Participating students will encounter the “Why?” of the field they experience and aim to find material and hints for their future course choices. ※ Program ⇒ Flyer ・Title: “The World of ‘Mathematics Research’ and ‘Mathematics Education’”(Faculty of Science Division I, Department of Mathematics) ・Main contents: *Class experience ① Multivariable Calculus (a required course for first-year students) Instructor: Tomomi Yokota (Faculty of Science Division I Department of Mathematics Professor) ➁ Mathematics Education Theory II (a compulsory teacher-training course for third-year students) Instructor: Hiroyuki Nakagawa (Faculty of Science Division I Department of Mathematics Professor) *Campus cafeteria experience *Research experience ① Tomomi Yokota Laboratory ② Mathematics Experience Hall *Interaction with current students; roundtable discussion ・Highlights of this program This program is the second installment of “The World of ‘Mathematics Research’ and ‘Mathematics Education’ (Faculty of Science Division I, Department of Mathematics)” held in July this year. This time as well, you will actually experience classes at 理科大. One is “Multivariable Calculus (a required course for first-year students),” which extends the previous “Single-Variable Calculus” to multivariable functions. You will understand the topology of Euclidean space and the basic theory of partial derivatives, then proceed to the Frechet derivative of multivariable functions and the integration of multivariable functions. Although this course lies on the extension of the differentiation and integration studied in high school, it offers lectures that foster deep conceptual understanding as well as application and computational skills. We hope participants will once again experience a precise lecture in pure mathematics. The other is “Mathematics Education Theory II (a compulsory teacher-training course for third-year students).” As with last time, this course is required to obtain a mathematics teaching license (junior high school and high school) at 理科大. Students will understand the educational goals of mathematics in junior and senior high schools and the qualities and abilities to be cultivated, deepen their understanding by relating them to the underlying academic fields, and acquire methods to enhance subject-teaching competence. At noon you will experience the campus cafeteria; in the afternoon, there will be research experiences in the Yokota Laboratory and the Mathematics Experience Hall, and—as was popular last time—opportunities for interaction with current students and a roundtable discussion. Don’t miss this opportunity at 理科大 to experience the world of “Mathematics Research” and “Mathematics Education”! ※Date and time: Thursday, December 24, 2026, 10:00~15:00 (Check-in from 9:40) ※Venue: Tokyo University of Science, Kagurazaka Campus ※Eligible participants: 20 high school students (3rd-year junior high school students and junior/senior high school teachers may also apply) ※Participation fee: Free (lunch at your own expense) ※Application form ⇒ https://tus.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2mdqSu9kAbnapmK ※Application deadline: Wednesday, December 16 After the deadline, we will send a confirmation slip and information on items to bring, etc., to the email address provided at registration.
細川家の歴代当主たちは、武将として軍事に携わり、藩主として熊本藩を治めたばかりでなく、和歌・能楽・茶の湯・博物学・絵画などの文化芸術を愛好したことで知られます。そうした芸術に向き合う姿勢は、戦国時代を生きた初代藤孝(ふじたか)や2代忠興(ただおき)以来、現在に至るまで脈々と受け継がれています。 16代護立(もりたつ、1883~1970)は“美術の殿様”として知られ、刀剣や禅画、東洋美術を収集し、同時代の芸術家を庇護しました。昭和25年(1950)には「財団法人永青文庫」を設立しています。17代護貞(もりさだ、1912~2005)は日本工芸会会長等を務め、美術愛好家として著書を多く出版したほか、陶磁器の作品展を開き、絵画や文具などを収集しました。護熙(もりひろ、1938~)は、熊本県知事や第79代内閣総理大臣を務めるなど政治家として活動後、還暦を機に焼きものを始め、近年は京都・奈良の寺院に襖絵を奉納するなど、旺盛な制作活動を続けています。そして、令和5年(2023)に永青文庫理事長に就任した護光(もりみつ、1972~)は、20代で作陶を始め、2006年に熊本で開窯。各地の個展で精力的に作品を発表しています。 本展では、護立・護貞・護熙・護光にいたる近現代の細川家四代が、自ら制作した作品を一堂に展示します。700年あまり続く細川家に受け継がれた芸術表現の営みをご覧ください。 細川護立 細川護貞 細川護熙 撮影:新津保建秀 細川護光 交通案内 《バス》JR目白駅(「目白駅前」バス停)・副都心線雑司が谷駅 出口3(「鬼子母神前」バス停)より、都営バス「白61 新宿駅西口」行きにて「目白台三丁目」下車徒歩5分 《都電》都電荒川線早稲田駅より徒歩10分 《地下鉄》有楽町線江戸川橋駅(出口1a)より徒歩15分/東西線早稲田駅(出口3a)より徒歩15分 《ドコモ・バイクシェア》E2-14. 永青文庫 永青文庫とは 肥後熊本藩54万石を治めた細川家の下屋敷跡に建つ、東京で唯一の大名家の美術館としても有名です。昭和25(1950)年に16代当主・細川護立が設立し、大名 細川家に伝わる武具・茶道具・書画や、護立が収集した近代日本画・中国古美術などを所蔵。年に数回、テーマを替えて展覧会を開催しています。 SNS:https://x.com/eiseibunko / https://www.instagram.com/eiseibunko .combi-4__list { display: grid; grid-template-columns: repeat(4, 1fr); width: 100%; gap: 10px; } .combi-4__item { display: flex; flex-direction: column; list-style-type: none; border: 1px solid #ccc; } .combi-4__item img { width: 100%; } .combi-4__item p { font-size: 12px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; } @media screen and (max-width: 768px) { .combi-4__list { grid-template-columns: repeat(2, 1fr); } } /*エリアキャンプ以外では不要*/ @media screen and (max-width: 1024px) and (min-width: 768px) { #contentsBox .freeHtml { display: block; } #contentsBox .freeHtml div + div { margin-left: 0; } }

With “Waiting” as its theme, 『コンドーさんを待ちながら』 premiered in 2023. The audience is welcomed as visitors to the Kondo household, greeted by a Kondo-san doll, and sent off on a new journey with a farewell song. The stage removes the boundary with the audience seating, created as an “immersive theater” where performers and audience coexist in the same space. Performers from different backgrounds—drama, dance, and music—interweave their expressions, while borderless original folk music performed on about 20 kinds of instruments guides the progression. For the revival, it is renewed to reflect a changing society and people’s sentiments, with a structure and direction aligned with contemporary sensibilities, evolving into an “advanced immersive theater” that lets audiences feel this very era. Enjoy the sparkle of lacquer this summer. 「漆、きらり」 at Eisei Bunko Urushi has long been used in everyday life across Japan and Asia. It has been applied to vessels, boxes, tea utensils, musical instruments, and more, and a variety of techniques emerged depending on country and era. What techniques are there? There are techniques that differ in appearance and in how they are made. Each offers a distinct luster and texture, revealing the depth of lacquer art. - Raden An inlay technique using mother-of-pearl to create motifs - Choshitsu Multiple layers of lacquer are built up, then the surface is carved to form motifs - Sokin Lines and dots are incised on the lacquer surface and gold leaf, etc., is rubbed in - Maki-e A technique developed uniquely in Japan in which gold, silver, or colored powders are sprinkled on lacquer to express motifs A collection unique to Eisei Bunko It houses daimyo accoutrements, tea utensils, and musical instruments, as well as works made in China, the Korean Peninsula, Ryukyu, and Southeast Asia. You can compare differences in expression by region. First display since designation as Important Cultural Property The highlight this time is the “楼閣人物螺鈿稜花形食籠,” designated an Important Cultural Property in 2023. At Eisei Bunko, this will be its first public showing since designation. Note the charms only apparent in person, such as the minute raden decorations and the way its expression changes with the light. First public showing of restored cultural properties. In this exhibition, we will present to the public for the first time the cultural properties restored with support from crowdfunding, following completion of their restoration. Cultural properties are passed on to the future through restoration Over time, the paper and pigments of old documents and paintings can deteriorate or tear. Therefore, expert restoration and conservation are essential to preserve cultural properties for the future. At the Eisei-Bunko Museum, crowdfunding campaigns were conducted in 2021 and 2023 as the “Cultural Property Restoration Project,” advancing the restoration of our collections. This exhibition introduces works whose restoration was completed thanks to that support. It offers not only the chance to view the works themselves, but also to consider them from the perspective of 「how to protect cultural properties and pass them on to the next generation」. Exhibition highlights - Important Cultural Property 「細川家文書」 - Important Cultural Property 松岡映丘 「室君」 - First public showing of works restored through crowdfunding, after restoration Special display commemorating 100 years since Moritatsu Hosokawa’s trip abroad The year 2027 marks 100 years since the Eisei-Bunko founder, Moritatsu Hosokawa, traveled overseas. National Treasure “Hosokawa Mirror” on view! This exhibition introduces artworks from ancient China and the Orient collected by Eisei-Bunko’s founder, Hosokawa Moritatsu. A diverse array of works—metalware, ceramics, Islamic ceramics, tiles, and more—will be on display. The 16th head of the Hosokawa family, Hosokawa Moritatsu, was familiar with Chinese classics from childhood and had a strong interest in Chinese culture. While traveling in Europe from 1926, he purchased metalware and ceramics, including the “Gilt Bird-and-Beast-and-Cloud Design Bronze Tray,” later designated a National Treasure. This became the catalyst for his full-fledged collecting of Chinese art. His interest further expanded to Oriental art, and he also collected Islamic ceramics and tiles. Highlights of the exhibition - The National Treasure “Gilt-and-Silver Inlaid Hunting Scene Bronze Mirror,” known as the “Hosokawa Mirror” - Ancient Chinese metalwork - Ceramics - Islamic ceramics - Tiles from the Orient - Artworks collected overseas by Hosokawa Moritatsu Enjoy comparing art from around the world As you compare and view—asking “What patterns are depicted?” “For what purpose was it made?”—the differences in culture and aesthetic sensibility of each region come into view. A new pictorial world for two, unfolding from Van Gogh’s masterpieces From Friday, October 9 to Saturday, October 31, 2026, the two-person exhibition "Looking Through Painting" by Hitomi Ikeda and Yu Akashi will be held at the gallery "eitoeiko(エイトエイコ)" in Kagurazaka, Yaraichō. The idea for this exhibition originated in the night view the two encountered while staying on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture. As the night scenery of Inatori in Higashi-Izu looked like Van Gogh’s masterpiece "Starry Night Over the Rhône," the theme of "looking at painting as a window" was born. Tracing Van Gogh’s world through thread and pencil, each with their own expression If we look at a painting as a single "window," what might be visible beyond it? The landscapes Van Gogh gazed upon, and the look in his eyes as he moved his brush. Through paintings created over a century ago, we reflect on the world the artist saw at the time. Hitomi Ikeda uses "thread," and Yu Akashi uses "pencil," each approaching Van Gogh’s paintings in their own way. Though they start from the same works, their materials and methods differ. By comparing the pieces, you may discover a new way to enjoy painting. Opening party 10/9 (Fri) 18:00–20:00 Exhibiting artists ・Hitomi Ikeda Born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1983. Graduated from the School of Letters, Arts and Sciences I, Waseda University. Participated in artist-in-residence programs in Beppu, Fukuoka, and Hamamatsu. Major exhibitions include "Empty Inside" (eitoeiko, 2024), "桜を見る会" (eitoeiko, 2023), "毛糸模写" (CCC Shizuoka City Cultural and Creative Industries Promotion Center, 2022), among others. ・Yu Akashi Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1983. Graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design; completed graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts. Major exhibitions include "HARAIZUMI ART DAYS" (2023), "サーティーラブ" (eitoeiko, 2023), "method;カンバスに生える絵画" (SHINBI GALLERY, 2019). Winner of the Excellence Award at ARTISTS' FAIR KYOTO 2023.

SNS:https://x.com/eiseibunko / https://www.instagram.com/eiseibunko
